Africa at last, Côte d'Ivoire.

It was supposed to last one year in the Wa, but I'm finally back after 2 months... A complex situation prevents us to get the authorizations to reach the zone, so the project is currently put on hold for an undetermined period.
In the mean time, I'm heading to Haiti, some 11h30 jetlag from Myanmar... The other side of the world, nothing less! Maybe more news soon here.

Je devais rester un an dans le Wa, mais finalement je suis de retour apres 2 mois... Une situation complexe nous empeche d'obtenir les autorisations pour nous rendre sur la zone, alors nous mettons le projet en standby pour une periode indeterminee.
Pendant ce temps, je vais a Haiti, quelques 11h30 de decalage horaire avec le Myanmar... L'autre cote du monde, rien d'autre ! Peut-etre d'autres nouvelles bientot sur cette page.

First article.
It is now one month since I know where I will be heading to: Wa Special Region 2, in the Shan State, Myanmar. Here is the map, based on the UNODC survey on opium. If you still can't figure out where this is, check out the more detailled Maps in the pictures' section.

Premier article.
Ca fait maintenant un mois que je connais ma destination : la Region Speciale N°2 des Wa, dans l'etat Shan de Myanmar. La carte, d'apres l'enquete sur l'opium de l'UNODC. Si vous ne voyez toujours ou ca se trouve, regardez le detail des cartes dans le menu Pictures.

Everything is ready, now waiting for the visas and the green light from Action Contre la Faim.
My mission should last one year, working as a water and sanitation engineer. Action Contre la Faim is opening a base in the region, thanks to ECHO fundings, with 2 goals : start a water and sanitation program (hygiene, drinking water and sanitation - my part of the job), and make a full assesment of the agriculture and food situation there, in other to propose efficient alternatives to the opium poppy cultivation, as there will be an official ban on it starting in June 2005, cutting by 2/3 the income of the local population.
I hope that I will be able to access the internet from time to time, to fill up this blog, maybe to share some pictures with you...

Tout est pret, j'attend juste mes visas et le feu vert d'Action Contre la Faim.
La mission devrait durer un an, en temps qu'hydraulicien. Action Contre la Faim ouvre une base dans la region grace au financement de ECHO, avec 2 objectifs : lancer un programme en eau et assainissement (mon boulot - hygiene, eau potable, assainissement), et realiser une etude complete de la situation agricole et alimentaire, afin de proposer des alternatives efficaces a la culture de pavot, qui sera officiellement interdite en juin 2005, et qui represente 2/3 du revenu des agriculteurs locaux.
J'espere que je pourrai acceder a internet de temps en temps, vous donner des nouvelles par ce blog, et peut-etre partager quelques photos...
